By The Namesake

Pulsehub handled the commerce platform migration from Shopify to MedusaJS, the bespoke jacket configurator, dynamic pricing and made-to-order workflows, alongside the SEO migration.

Project overview

The challenge

A premium brand with complex requirements.

By The Namesake needed a bespoke luxury product configurator, dynamic pricing, complex product combinations and made-to-order manufacturing workflows. These requirements went beyond a conventional storefront setup, which is why the brand moved from Shopify to MedusaJS.

What we built

A Shopify to MedusaJS migration, and a custom platform on top.

Pulsehub migrated By The Namesake from Shopify to MedusaJS, then built the commerce functionality on top of it: a highly complex jacket configurator with over a million possible combinations, real-time dynamic pricing, engraving and customisation options, and manufacturing system integration. SEO migration was part of the migration scope, with the aim of preserving the brand’s existing organic visibility and search signals through the move.

Flagship project

Bespoke commerce engineering, at its most demanding.

By The Namesake (BTN) is a flagship example of what Pulsehub delivers: a migration from Shopify to MedusaJS, together with commerce that goes well beyond a standard storefront, with the product logic and operational systems a made-to-order brand needs.

  • Shopify to MedusaJS migration

The brand moved from Shopify to MedusaJS, an open-source commerce foundation that the configurator, pricing and manufacturing functionality are built on. SEO migration was part of the scope, to preserve existing organic visibility.

  • Custom jacket configurator

A bespoke configurator with extensive product customisation, letting customers design their jacket piece by piece.

  • Dynamic pricing

Pricing updates as customers configure their products, so the price always reflects the choices made.

  • Made-to-order workflows

Manufacturing functionality that carries each configured order from checkout through to production.

Operations

Beyond the storefront.

The project extended beyond the shopping experience into the operational systems required to support made-to-order products.

  • Materials and suppliers
  • Batch management
  • Bill of materials
  • FIFO costing
  • Manufacturing integration
  • Draft orders and payment links

Technical approach

Commerce engineered around the product.

A jacket with over a million possible combinations, priced in real time and made to order, is not a standard catalogue product. Its configuration, its price and its manufacturing requirements are all connected.

By The Namesake moved from Shopify to MedusaJS because its requirements went beyond a conventional storefront setup: a bespoke luxury configurator, dynamic pricing, complex product combinations and made-to-order manufacturing workflows.

MedusaJS provided the commerce foundation for the bespoke configuration logic, the dynamic pricing and the operational requirements of the brand. Because it is open source, we could build those requirements into the platform itself rather than adapt the product to fit the platform. Pulsehub handled the platform migration, the SEO migration and the commerce functionality built on top of it.
